Losec

Losec (omeprazole) is a prescription medication used to treat Acid reflux, stomach ulcers, GERD. Losec is a proton pump inhibitor used in New Zealand to treat excessive stomach acid, heartburn, acid reflux, and stomach ulcers. It is one of the most commonly prescribed medications in New Zealand.

Omeprazole irreversibly blocks the hydrogen-potassium ATPase enzyme system (proton pump) in the stomach lining, which is the final step in stomach acid secretion. This dramatically reduces the amount of acid produced.

Commonly reported side effects of Losec include Headache, Diarrhea, Stomach pain, Nausea, Low magnesium (long-term), and C. difficile infection risk. This is not a complete list — tell your doctor or pharmacist about any side effects you experience.
