Jardiance

Jardiance (empagliflozin) is a prescription medication used to treat Type 2 diabetes, heart failure, chronic kidney disease. Jardiance is advertised in Canada as an oral daily pill for type 2 diabetes that also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in people with type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Jardiance blocks the SGLT2 protein in the kidneys, which normally reabsorbs blood sugar back into the body. By blocking this protein, excess glucose is excreted in the urine, lowering blood sugar levels.

Commonly reported side effects of Jardiance include Urinary tract infections, Yeast infections, Increased urination, Low blood pressure, and Rare: diabetic ketoacidosis. This is not a complete list — tell your doctor or pharmacist about any side effects you experience.
